Herndon
The bustling town of Herndon, VA is located just west of its neighbor Reston, VA and is the last outpost in Fairfax County along the Dulles Toll Road before entering into Loudoun County. The addition of Metro’s Silver Line with stops in Herndon and Innovation Center, has made it easier for local residents to commute into Tysons Corner, Washington, DC or to Dulles Airport. The town is named after American Naval Explorer, Commander William Herndon. The area, for many years was known as a farming and dairy community that thrived on its location along the Washington & Old Dominion Railroad.
Today, that railway is the W&OD Trail, a popular rails-to-trails passage which walkers, runners and bikers enjoy daily as it runs directly through the town of Herndon. The incorporated town of Herndon is relatively small geographically but the greater Herndon area is expansive and is home to all socioeconomic levels and home types. Two of the largest employers in Herndon are Fannie Mae and Booz Allen & Hamilton. The town offers family fun events throughout the year including 4th of July fireworks and a summer concert series called Friday Night Live with outdoor concerts on the Town Green. It also has a well-maintained public golf course, an Ault, Clark and Associates design known as Herndon Centennial. Known for its playability, it is operated by the town of Herndon itself.
