Bladensburg

As a place with some interesting historical facts, Bladensburg, MD is located just outside of Washington, DC adjacent to Hyattsville. Named in honor of former Maryland Governor Thomas Bladen, Bladensburg was the site of the first documented unmanned balloon flight in a field near town back in 1784. It is also where the Bladensburg Dueling Grounds – a court of last resort for offended gentlemen and politicians who settled their scores with pistols and muskets – once stood. Residents in the area these days can enjoy an easy drive into DC or can hop onto Metrorail’s Green/Yellow Line at either West Hyattsville or Prince Georges Plaza. The Bladensburg Waterfront Park offers miles of walking/hiking trails on the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail as well as access to the Anacostia and the Potomac waterways. Most homes in the area are single-family units dating back to the 1920s. However, some new homes have been built recently in communities such as Hamlet Woods.
